LIFE IN TRANSIT

Your life in Toronto will have you very familiar with these images. If you, like many of us students, do not have a car, you are most likely at the mercy of the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC). This system of transit, however, is massive. Whatever flack they may get, the TTC has an extraordinary fleet of busses and routes. There is a two-line subway that spans the city's north and south, as well as an extensive west to east line. Last but not least, the unique, retro, and convenient streetcars that can be found on almost all major streets.

So, wherever you may go to school, you can find your way there pretty easily. Click here to plan your trip with TTC!

Sometimes, your commute is going to be lengthly. It is going to be tedious as well. Some days, you might down right dread seeing that TTC logo. Your time commuting does not need to be the equivalent of a video game loading screen, however. As a student, you don't have to take this idle time for granted. Catch up on readings! Get in some last minute cramming if you're on your way to an exam! This can also be the perfect time for self-reflection. Maybe a little meditation.

Could this be the time to discover music? Your favourite songs are kind of transformed when you're in transit. You are no longer listening to music, you are within a music video. With you at the focal point.

Our personal favourite, though, is the people watching. You never know who or what you will see on the TTC. Comment down below what you do while riding the TTC!

There is something to be said about being part of a crowd, all anxiously moving from point A to point B. It can be an addictive feeling, being stripped of that individuality. If anything, looking around at your "neighbours" can harbour a sense of community during your commute. Is it 6AM? Are contagious yawns having a domino effect throughout the train? Or is it 5PM? Are swarms of people getting off work, their eagerness filling the air? You truly see the full spectrum of human emotion while commuting. The full scope of the human experience. If it wasn't clear before, it sure is now: we are all in this together.

And that is life in transit.
