Where Else Can You Study Besides Campus?

You’re probably quite familiar with your college or university’s library. Far too familiar. It’s not uncommon to spend late nights clutching your third or fourth coffee, hoping the building’s dim lights will be enough to keep you awake until you finish an assignment. Well, the library is almost the central hub of a campus. A gathering place for all students, regardless of their area of study, to cram together. Cram in a physical sense and academic sense, that is. This hall of learning and ritual, as useful as it might be, can definitely get old fast. However, it’s important to keep in mind that this hall is not a prison you’re confined to. You can actually leave campus and study anywhere you like! For Toronto students, you have an impressive array of options to choose from. The libraries in this city are second to none, and this is especially true for the Toronto Reference Library.

Located at 789 Yonge Street, the Toronto Reference Library almost feels like stepping into another decade. It was created by Raymond Moriyama, a prolific architect who was also responsible for the Ontario Science Centre and National Museum of Saudi Arabia in Riyadh.  The design joins together a 1970s burgundy and white colour scheme with a wavy futuristic architecture that makes the space just memorizing to be a part of. Studying can sometimes even feel difficult here because you will definitely spend a lot of time looking up and around the building. Regardless, this library is Canada’s largest reference library, bringing in hundreds of people of all academic backgrounds every day. Keep in mind, though, a reference library means there is no borrowing from the public; all items are to be referenced during your visit only.

So, if you’re feeling a bit bored of your campus library, take a trip here! There are five floors to choose from and a stunning glass elevator with a view to get you there. The environment in which you study plays a key role what mood you’ll be in as you study. So don’t be afraid to shake things up! Whether it’s a quaint café, public library, or even outside in the park, finding out your comfort zone can be a game changer as you progress through your schooling. So, don’t stop exploring, don’t stop peaking behind the curtains of your city, and most importantly... don’t stop studying.
